We are a small independent alternative provision based in a rural setting in Abberley, we have been running since 2009 working with local schools and the local authorities.
We cater for school children, aged 10 -16, most of our children are high school age or transitioning, we do not have other groups of service users on site at the same time.
Our aim is to provide a friendly, inviting rural environment where everyone feels at home and can receive SEN support to achieve. We understand many of our young people have to cope with difficult circumstances, we hope to enable them to develop and adjust to the challenges they face through animal assisted learning.
We offer therapeutic animal assisted interventions, animal care , landbased, lifeskills, arts and craft activities to support our children’s access to education and social and emotional wellbeing. Some of our students are longer term but our aim is really to support them during difficult times and transitions. Our referrals need to come through SENCO’s or caseworkers, but I am happy to discuss our provision with parents.
We are a registered Asdan Centre, so build meaningful portfolios to achieve recognised qualifications / certificates for our older students. Developing skills for learning, skills for employment, skills for life. Making learning relevant and transferable. Rewarding a range of learning styles and contexts.
Most of our young people have or are working towards an ASD diagnosis and an EHCP, many have suffered trauma, poor mental health and high anxiety and some have ADHD. We work 1;1 and in very small groups with a maximum of 8 students onsite and high staff ratios. We do our upmost to build a supportive relationship with parents and carers.
Our day is 9am-2pm, children can attend for a maximum of 15 hours per week, we are not a school.
